The opposition New National Party is already calling foul on the new government, accusing the National Democratic Congress of intimidation, instilling fear and victimization.
Public Relations Officer Terry Forrester told the media on Thursday that there was an atmosphere of tense and fear at the Prime Minister’s office.
One employee of the office, Ms. Cheryl Williams, an outreach officer was reportedly taken away to the Criminal Investigation Department after removing three bags of documents from the premises.
The government employee says she is very hurt by the treatment meted out to her by the police.
She says on arrival to work, she informed the Permanent Secretary that she was going to sort out some files in her office. She said she was detained at the CID office from 11:00 am to 3:45 pm on Thursday.
Corporate Communications Officer for the Royal Grenada Police Force, Troy Garvey says Ms. Williams was taken to CID to avoid an atmosphere of intimidation while her documents were searched.
Meanwhile the Permanent Secretary in the Prime Minister’s ministry, Ms. Lana McPhail said she called a staff meeting Thursday morning and told her staff not to remove any documents, or erase any material from their computer.
She urged them to continue operating as normal. In a separate development, the opposition New National Party is calling on the new Prime Minister and the National Democratic Congress to be respectful to members of the outgoing government.
Public Relations Officer, Terry Forrester said former Prime Minister, Dr. Keith Mitchell was dismayed by the way in which the two vehicles he used as Prime Minister were taken away from him as well as his security detail.
Forrester said the Prime Minister was given no notice of removal..
