An assorted selection of books, valued at about 4,000 Canadian dollars, has left Toronto for Carriacou. The items, including children’s storybooks, novels, reference texts and dictionaries, are a gift from the National Democratic Congress Support Group in Toronto. The barrel of books is destined for the public library in Carriacou.
“We have asked Senator George Prime, and he has given us the assurance, that he will handle all the arrangements for the safe and speedy delivery of the books to the library,” said Sandra Pierre, NDC Toronto Secretary, who coordinated the collection of the books in Canada.
Senator Prime was officially endorsed on April 12 as the NDC’s candidate to contest the next general election.
Carriacou-born Peter Bishop, Public Relations Officer of NDC Toronto, said the book donation is a gesture of the importance of investing in the nation’s youth.
“Our support group and our party, the National Democratic Congress, believe that any real vision for youth must involve developing the minds of our young people,” said Bishop. “One of the central components must be education and training. This donation of books is our small contribution in helping to transform the vision into reality.”
NDC Toronto also plans on donating books to the public library and schools in Grenada.
Hi
I recently spent 3 wks on the island of carriacou where i was born I paid a vist to the Library to my shock and horror some of the books was in bad condition,no internet in the library i found the library was lacking a wide slecetion of books.
I think all books donation should go straight to carriacou library and not grenada.
I also think carriacou library needs a larger building
