St. George’s, November 30, 2010 (GIS) – Well known constitutional expert, Dr. Simeon McIntosh, will lead a series of public consultation that will examine the Grenada Constitution with a view to making possible changes to it.
The series begins Friday, December 3, with the “Launch of the Consultative Process for a Draft Constitution of Grenada.’’
The launch, scheduled to start 9 a.m., will be held at the Grenada Trade Centre, Morne Rouge, St. George’s. The event is open to the public.
To facilitate the consultation process, a working document has been prepared by Carriacou-born Dr. McIntosh, who is a Professor of Jurisprudence at the University of the West Indies.
The document is based on reports and recommendations that were included in two previous reviews of the Grenada Constitution. One was conducted in the 1980s and the other completed in 2006.
At Friday’s launch, Dr. McIntosh – the author of several texts, including “Caribbean Constitutional Reform: Rethinking the West Indian Polity’’ – will make a presentation, giving an “overview of the Draft Review Constitution of Grenada.’’
During the public consultation process, which is expected to last four to six months, discussions on the constitution will be held with various groups such as community-based organisations, students and teachers’ bodies, trade unions, the private sector, and non-governmental organisations.
