Grenada Volleyball Association meets Ministry of Sports officials

A delegation from the Grenada Volleyball Association this morning paid a courtesy call on the Permanent Secretary Mrs. Theresa Bowen and Director of Sports Conrad Francis.

The delegation led by GVA President Richard Simon and Executive Member Raphael Brathwaite, appraised the Ministry officials on the state of the Game and efforts to reorganize the management of volleyball in Grenada.

“We believe there is much to be gained from the organization of the game of Volleyball at this time. There is significant focus on the game on the Caribbean in the region by the world body, FIBVB, and Grenada is in line to benefit, but we must get the national and club frame work in place to take advantage of what’s ahead,” said Simon.

The President who recently returned from international meetings on the game in Trinidad and Lusanne Switzerland outlined some of the plans of the executive in strengthening the game and praised the Ministry of Sports efforts to provide training in volleyball at the secondary school level. “We welcome the assistance of the ministry in the development of the game because its these persons who now play at the school level that will become the club and national players in the future,” he said.

Both Permanent Secretary Bowen and Director of Sports Francis said welcomed the meeting and pledged the ministry’s support for the efforts to reorganize the sport in Grenada as it was part of her ministry’s portfolio. “We are happy that these efforts are taking place to have the game organized at a national level and we want to keep in communication with the association so that we can play a role in this process,” she said.

She said the ministry was focusing on the development of Volleyball in the schools to ensure the game will have a base on which to grow.

According to Sports Director Francis the critical aspect of the development process was the desire to have club structure in place in all parishes. He noted that leadership was critical to the success of the process.

The Association is making every effort to meet with groups playing the game in the various parishes to discuss a more structured approach to the development of Volleyball in Grenada and the national competition in the summer...

  1. please recognise the work of Adam Lafeuille. He is paid a megre salary to coach the secondary schools in Grenville and on his own accord does the schools in the town of St. George as well.

To encourage the sport, pay him something better than what is given to him.
