Grenada PM refuses to meet with concerned MPs

From Caribupdate new service.

GRENADA’S PRIME MINISTER Tillman Thomas has reportedly refused a meeting with a group of his governing MPs about a pending cabinet reshuffle.

According to reliable sources, five MPs had sought an audience with the Grenadian leader amidst reports he had confirmed a pending shake-up.

The issue has been the focus of widespread debate in the Grenadian media in the last 48 hours.

An official statement from the Prime Minister’s office late Wednesday in confirming the pending shake-up, said the changes are designed to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of government’s operations.

The Prime Minister was quoted as saying that there was nothing extraordinary about a cabinet reshuffle.

But the shake-up that will see the demotion of environment minister Michael Church and the firing of Peter David from the powerful Foreign Ministry, has reportedly met with discontent by some of the cabinet.

However, according to sources, the Prime Minister refused to meet on the matter reportedly because his mind had already been made up.

It has also led to some disquiet within the rank and file of the ruling National Democratic Congress itself, forcing the cancellation of a previously scheduled meeting of general council delegates that was set for Sunday.

No official reason has been given for the cancellation of the meeting but observers believed that the leadership was worried about a possible open rebellion among delegates.

There were also some online calls for the meeting to be boycotted.

  1. That means new elections.

I don know what happened exactly, but this sounds to the all familiar cry of a man who got drowned in power through corruption.
The power seems to have gone to the PM’s head and clouds his judgement.
He is supposed to be the leader of Government, the Chairman, who works TOGETHER with his government members.
But this sounds more like a dictator who’s vision is influenced by DOLLARS on Cayman Island bank accounts.
When ever is the corruption in Caribbean politics going to end ? When are the ones who are corrupting these politicians (all American citizens !!) be put in prison.
Onl;y then the Caribbean can get a fair chance to develop itself.
