St. George’s, November 14, 2009 (GIS) – Grenadians are about to receive improved internet and information technology services.
Senator Arley Gill, the Minister responsible for Information and Information Technology, told members of the Upper House of Parliament that government has been holding negotiations aimed at reaching an agreement for the launch of a broadband network in Grenada.
One of the goals of government, Senator Gill said, is to become “technologically compliant,’’ and to provide many services electronically.
“That is something that is high on the agenda of the government and we are doing all that we possibly can to ensure that we can deliver that particular service at the best price,’’ he said. “So that things like E-Government, E-Business, E-Health and E-Learning can become a reality in the country, and we can become technologically compliant as we look to develop what we call the new economy.’’
Senator Gill said the administration of Prime Minister Hon. Tillman Thomas is “aggressively’’ pursuing the establishment of the broadband network.
“We have had serious negotiations in the last couple of weeks and, hopefully, we can deliver that to the country in the first quarter of next year. That’s extremely important to us,’’ he said.
“We hold the chairmanship in CARICOM with regard to science and technology and we believe that we must lead in the region in terms of science and technology, internet services and information and communication technology.’’
