The Church is said to be one of the safest places that people can be in, as those who go there do so to give God thanks and praise and worship Him. This belief, however, was shattered last week Saturday (May 1) when a woman, who was attending afternoon service at the Grand Roy Seventh Day Adventist Church was attacked and stabbed inside the building.
It is believed that the woman and the man who attacked her are neighbors and they had an altercation of some kind. It is alleged that he entered the church, where the congregation was worshiping, and inflicted four stab wounds to her body.
According to her husband, Mr. Brathwaite, the stab wounds would have almost punctured his wife’s vital organs and she sustained lacerations to her hand as she tried to defend herself from the knife wielding assailant. She had to be rushed to the General Hospital in the city where she is believed to be in a stable condition at the moment.
Pastor Eldon Walker of the Grand Roy church and members of his congregation were caught completely off guard by this vicious physical attack in the house of God because many people never conceived of such an incident ever occurring in Grenada. He made an appeal to people to learn to solve conflicts in a peaceful manner.
