Grenada Destination Guide

Monday, 5th March, 2012: The untimely death of one of our senior members, Runako Morton, has left us stunned and deeply saddened.  Runako was a team player who gave of his best and the outpouring of grief by his team-mates on the West Indies, Trinidad and Tobago and Leeward Islands teams, as well as his local club, Queen’s Park, attests to the love they had for him and the esteem in which he was held.

Runako was a gifted cricketer with the ability to change a game.  He was always committed to making himself the best he could be as a person and as a professional player. The West Indies Players’ Association (WIPA) offers sincere condolences to Runako’s family and its support in their hour of need.  As President and CEO of WIPA, I have conveyed to his wife the Association’s sympathy and our intention to help in any way possible with the arrangements.

On a personal note, and like all the other cricketers who have written, called and posted their tributes to Runako, I feel this really deeply.  I had a long chat with Runako on Friday and when he left the WIPA office he was very upbeat and looking forward to fulfilling his cricketing commitments.  The news has stunned all of us in the regional and international cricketing fraternity. We will all miss him greatly.”

WIPA’s Vice President, Wavell Hinds also offered his condolences to Runako’s family and stated that, “Runako was a great friend and competitor on the field. He has certainly gone far too soon and I would forever treasure the great memories with him for sure.”
