KINGSTON, Jamaica: The executive and members of the West Indies Players’ Association (WIPA) wish to extend their condolences to the family and friends of former West Indies and Guyanese wicketkeeper Ivor Mendonca who lost his battle with cancer yesterday at the age of 79.
Ivor was quick with his hands and capable batsman, on his debut for the West Indies he scored 78 runs. Though he played only two test matches he averaged a respectable 40.50 and claimed 8 catches and 2 stumpings.
On learning of the Mr Mendonca’s passing, WIPA’s President and CEO, Wavell Hinds said yesterday, “Mr Mendonca was a great keeper even with his short stint you saw his ability, in his later years he helped the cricketing youth in Guyana hone and develop his skills. He will be missed immensely. Our thoughts and prayers are with all his loved ones during this difficult time.”
