WIPA extends condolences to Devon Smith and his family

KINGSTON, Jamaica: The executive and members of the West Indies Players’ Association (WIPA) extends their condolences to Devon Smith and family on the untimely death of his son.

In reacting to the news, WIPA’s President, Wavell Hinds said today, “Our thoughts and prayers are with Devon and his family during this difficult time. Devon has been and continues to be a supportive and loyal member of the WIPA family and we are here to provide him whatever support and guidance he needs.”

Reports emerging this week confirmed that Smith’s son passed away, although details of the tragedy are not fully known.

“Devon has the full support of WIPA and we hope that with the support of his family and friends as well, he will soon get back to the cricket field and the game he loves. Devon is my former teammate, and as a father myself, I can only imagine what he is going through. We urge all fans of Windward Island and West Indies cricket to keep Devon and his family in their prayers,” said Hinds.

Smith has been an important member of the Windward Islands team for the past decade playing 145 First Class matches and 123 Limited-Overs matches while representing the West Indies in 33 Test matches, 47 One-Day Internationals and six Twenty20 Internationals.
