The charity REACH Grenada has launched a special competition to recruit a Grenadian National (and resident) to represent Grenada and run alongside fellow international REACH Grenada fundraisers in the ING New York City Marathon on 1st November 2009. The winner will receive a guaranteed place on the REACH Grenada marathon team, return flights for themselves and one companion to New York City, 3 nights accommodation in New York City and $300 spending money.
This generous prize has been underwritten by The Bartholomew J. Lawson Foundation for Children, the principal funding source of REACH Grenada, a charity dedicated to enhancing the lives of the children of Grenada. Through its close collaboration and partnership with the Grenadian government and people REACH Grenada aims to create and develop projects that generate long term, sustainable funding and results. Dr Karen Lawson, Director of The Bartholomew J. Lawson Foundation and Founder of REACH Grenada says:
“The personal involvement and input of Grenadian people is vital to REACH Grenada’s successes which continue to benefit the children of Grenada. Participation in the NYC marathon is one example of how we can work together, in partnership, to raise funds and really make a difference.”
A registered charity with the New York Road Runners Club, REACH Grenada has been awarded 25 places to form ‘Team Grenada’ and take part in the forthcoming world-famous marathon. Each marathon team member is required to raise a minimum of $2500 in sponsorship money, most of which will go directly towards funding the numerous ongoing initiatives and projects that REACH Grenada has implemented over the past two years including an agricultural chicken breeding project as part of the National School Feeding Program and an educational program aimed at raising standards in literacy.
Mr Neo Moreton, Executive Director of REACH Grenada, is currently training to run in the November Marathon event himself and comments:
“Training for and completing a marathon, and raising sponsorship for REACH Grenada is a great opportunity to achieve a personal goal whilst really investing in improving the lives of others.”
