West Indians Performance in IPL

West Indians are having average performance in the 2020 Indian Premier League in batting and bowling.  Among the batsmen are Shimron Hetmyer and Nicholas Pooran.  Andre Russell is the top allrounder.

Hetmyer in ten matches has an totaled 260 runs with a highest score of 59 and a strike rate of 163.52 and an average of 65.  Pooran after a slow start has totaled 242 runs with a highest score of 64 averaging 60 with a strike rate of 148.46. Andre Russell from his ten matches totaled 227 runs with a strike rate of 175.  Rodman Powell has been a disappointment with a total of 202 with only one good inning of 67 not out in his last game.

In the bowling Dwayne Bravo leads with 14 wickets with a best performance of 3 for 20. Andre Russell 10 wickets with a best of 4 wickets for 5. Jason Holder who arrived after the first two games has 9 wickets with best of 3 wickets for 34.

Disappointing in the wicket column is Sunil Narine taking only 7 wickets but with a economic rate of 5.25 per over.

The biggest disappointment is former West Indies white ball captain Kieron Pollard who totaled 129 runs in his ten matches. Most of the other players have been disappointing or have not gotten much playing time.

The Indian Premier league is the most lucrative cricket league involving players from all top cricketing playing countries. It’s the time of the year when all cricketing countries take a break for two months.  Leading former players and commentators have criticized the IPL of a danger to traditional cricket.
