Tuesday August 9th 2011 Former Minister of Sports and the New National Party shadow minister of Sports Hon. Roland Bhola congratulates our star athlete Mr. Kirani James for wining the 400 meters in Aviva London Grand Prix atCrystalPalace in a world leading time of 44.61 seconds. His achievement at this tender age is testament to the tenacity and good will of the Grenadian spirit.
Kirani’s success brings into sharp focus the reckless and callous decision of the Minister of sports Hon. Patrick Simmons and the Government when they blatantly refused to rebuild the athletic stadium with the grant funding from the Chinese Government secured by the NNP Administration while in office. This decision will most definitely prevent the people ofGrenadafrom seeing Kirani compete live for some time to come.
The NNP takes this opportunity to promise Kirani and all other athletes that under our watch we will rebuild the athletic stadium to international standards so that they will be able to bring the world to our shores just as Usain Bolt, Asafa Powell and the others are doing forJamaica.
As our athletes continue to fly the flag ofGrenadahigh, we wish them on behalf of every sports-loving Grenadian, continued success, good health and God’s blessing.
