Visiting elderly citizens

St. George’s, October 17, 2011 – Member of Parliament for the Town of St. George, the Hon. Peter David, has started a round of visits to senior citizens in his constituency.

In commemoration of October as the “Month of the Elderly,’’ Mr. David has promised to visit constituents who are 60 years and older. His first stop has been to residents of Darbeau.

The MP, who was accompanied by two representatives of the Roving Caregivers Programme, spent more than two hours in the Darbeau community, chatting with elderly residents and discussing their needs and concerns.

In some cases, the caregivers requested Mr. David’s assistance as they performed sugar and blood pressure tests on the elderly. Many of the seniors also received food hampers from the parliamentary representative.

In response to words of thanks from the recipients, MP David said: “We should be the ones thanking you for all that you have done for us, as a younger generation, and all that you have done for the country.’’

The series of visit by the MP, who is also Tourism and Civil Aviation Minister, is continuing. He’s also planning to host a dinner for the elderly later this month.
