The United Workers Party (UWP) has reported that its Victory Rally for Change and Artistes for Change concert have been resoundingly successful and has promised an attractive package of activities in the run-up to General Elections.
Speaking at a press conference on November 12, the party’s Leader Lennox Linton said the concert, which was held last Saturday night at the Harlem Plaza, featured a number of local artistes who performed songs that bore poignant messages.
Artistes were asked to attend the event in a show of solidarity and to demonstrate their desire for change, even though all could not perform.
Members of the public turned out in great numbers, despite the Dominica Labour Party’s concert that same night, featuring reggae superstar Beres Hammond.
Linton said he was extremely pleased with the massive turnout of patriots to the Victory for Change rally on the following day at the Newtown Savannah.
He said that The Victory for Change Rally, at Newtown, in the Roseau South Constituency, set the tone for a number of activities that the UWP has planned as the December 8 election date approaches.
The UWP will present its full slate of candidates to members of civil society at the Goodwill Parish Hall tonight from 7:00p.m.
A grand March for democracy, highlighting the need for free and fair elections, will be held on Saturday, starting from the Newtown Savannah and culminating at the Pottersville Savannah.
On Sunday, a grand women’s rally will be held at Paix Bouche, in the Calibishie Constituency, featuring the party’s candidate for that area, Eunica Anthony-Victor. She will be accompanied by candidate for the St Joseph Constituency, Monell Williams.
The keynote address will be delivered by Joann Massiah, an attorney-at-law, Member of Parliament in Antigua & Barbuda, former minister of Government and rights advocate.
