Unexpected Match up for DCC Finals

Friday, December 12 – Kingston, Jamaica: If anyone was taking bets, the big ticket would have been on a Cuba vs. Jamaica Final match for the 2008 Digicel Caribbean Championships. But Grenada continues to surprise, and yesterday defeated Cuba to gain entry to battle with their rival Jamaica for the ultimate prize: To be named 2008 Digicel Caribbean Champions!

“God, Hard work, Dedication and Team Spirit!” That is what Grenada Coach and Captain, Anthony Modeste, said was the reason for their victory on Thursday December 11 at the National Stadium in Kingston, after defeating Cuba. He continued: “The players gave it their all. We were confident. Love of the game has brought us this far and we know we can win this tournament.”

After being defeated by Jamaica in their last meeting, Grenada is eager to play them once more in the DCC Finals. Modeste explained simply: “We want to play Jamaica. We have a score to settle.”

And what say Jamaica? Reggae Boyz Head Coach, John Barnes comments: “It won’t be easy against Grenada, we beat them last time so they will be coming after us on Sunday. I expect a tough game and we’ll be ready.”

The 2008 Digicel Caribbean Championships’ Finals will be one of the most exciting as Grenada try to prove to the Caribbean that a small team can come up against giants and be victorious.

Come Sunday December 14, Grenada and Jamaica will battle for the grand prize of US$120,000, the coveted Digicel Caribbean Championships’ trophy and the title of Caribbean Football Champions.
