UNDER-13 MVP JOINS COIN TOSS FOR FOURTH DIGICEL ODI

Sunday, March 29 – Kensington Oval, Bridgetown, Barbados: Outstanding young Barbadian cricketer, Carlos Maynard, was in the international spotlight when he joined captains Chris Gayle and Andrew Strauss for the coin toss of the 4th Digicel One Day International (ODI) at Kensington Oval this Sunday.

The 13-year old Alleyne School student was voted the Most Valuable Player (MVP) in the recently concluded Inspire Sports Under-13 Cricket Tournament for his outstanding performances, including scoring the most runs overall and the only century in the tournament for the Fusion Boutique Passage Road team he represented.

Excited about the opportunity, Maynard exclaimed: “I am really glad I got this chance to participate in an international ODI, thanks to Digicel. Not many children my age will ever experience being on the Kensington Oval pitch with the captains of the West Indies and England teams and I am really excited,” explained the batsman wicket-keeper who is also the captain of his school’s Second Division and Under-13 teams and former captain of Barbados’ Under-13 team.

Following the opening coin toss was a short presentation by both West Indies and England Captains to Jamaican born umpire Steve Bucknor as the 4th Digicel ODI marks his last official match as umpire.
