Beausejour, Carriacou, May 16, 2014- As Grenada pushes forward with constitutional reform, one of the issues being raised is making the Caribbean Court of Justice (CCJ) the nation’s final Appellate Court.

Supporting Grenada’s move to the CCJ is Hon. Elvin Nimrod, Minister for Carriacou and Petite Martinique Affairs. He is also Minister for Legal Affairs, Labour and Local Government.

Speaking at the recently held constitutional reform meeting in Carriacou, Minister Nimrod – who is a lawyer by profession – said the CCJ has his fullest support.

He explained that the CCJ has been designed to be more than a court of last resort for member-states of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM).

Carriacou is one of many communities nationwide already visited by members of the constitutional reform committee.

The members are soliciting the views and concerns of the public and discussing the need for reform, including the reasons for the establishment of the CCJ; and the benefits of the Caribbean Court of Justice to Grenadians and other CARICOM nationals.

A special town hall meeting on the CCJ, which was inaugurated in Trinidad in April 2005, is scheduled to take place on Wednesday, May 21st, at the Hillsborough Government School, commencing at 6:30 p.m.

The general public is invited to attend and give their contributions on this important issue.
