St John’s, Antigua – Leeward Islands fast bowler Gavin Tonge, Combined Campuses and Colleges captain Omar Phillips and all rounder Carlos Brathwaite have been found in breach of the WICB Code of Conduct.
Tonge pleaded guilty to the Level 1 breach in the Leeward Islands v CCC game which concluded on February 21 in Antigua.
Tonge was found to have breached Rule 1.12 of the WICB Code which relates to showing dissent at an umpire’s decision by action or verbal abuse and has been officially reprimanded.
All Level 1 breaches carry a penalty of a minimum official reprimand and/or a fine of up to the equivalent of 50% of the player’s match fee.
The charge was brought by Match Referee Vanroy Burnes and Tonge pleaded guilty and a hearing was avoided.
Phillips and Brathwaite have been fined 70% and 60% of their match fees respectively for breaching the WICB Code resulting from CCC v Trinidad and Tobago match which concluded on February 14 in Trinidad.
Phillips and Brathwaite both pleaded guilty to Level 2 breaches. The two players were found to have breached Rule 2.11 which relates to public criticism of or inappropriate comment on a match related incident or match official.
All Level 2 breaches carry a penalty of between 50% of the player’s match fee up to the full match fee and/or a ban of 1 match and/or 2 one day matches.
The charges, relating to comments made in media interviews, were brought by Match Referee Hayden Bruce following the departure of the CCC team from Trinidad. The players pleaded guilty and agreed to the fine and hearings were not required.
