THE MADE IN GRENADA TOTAL LOCAL SHOWCASE CANCELLED

The Made In Grenada Total Local Showcase that was to feature 40 Local Artistes, 3 Local Bands, along with local food and drink, scheduled for Thursday August 7th, 2014, has been the cancelled.

The cancellation is due to the refusal of the Spicemas Corporation to endorse the event. The lack of the endorsement means securing the services of the RGPF and unimpeded use of the facilities at Fort Matthew becomes virtually impossible.

For the avoidance of doubt the following is an excerpt of the letter received from the Spicemas Corporation dated July 9th, 2014;

“We note that the event is carded for 7 August, 2014. Unfortunately, we are unable to offer endorsement for the event due the conflict of interest relative to the date of your event. August 7, 2014 is classified as Majestic Thursday and is designated as the night for the National Queen Show. We do appreciate you efforts as it relates to showcasing our Artistes; however, we must adhere to our mandate to ensure that the national events are our priority.”

The Made In Grenada Showcase was planned and scheduled several weeks before a queen show was announced, when it appeared there would be no queen show. The rush to put on a queen show was a surprise to us and at the least we expected some kind of arrangement to allow both shows to take place on the same night; not a total and complete refusal to endorse our event.

It is informative, insightful and interesting to note the Corporation’s desire to ‘ensure that the national events are our priority’. Last time we checked Panorama was a national event.

Made In Grenada will retool and prepare for a 2015 version of the Made In Grenada Showcase that will circumvent the narrow-minded, vindictive decision-making of the Spicemas Corporation.

To the Artistes and Bands who had already committed to performing at the Showcase, we do apologise for the inconvenience this temporary setback may have caused.  To our Sponsors we are eternally grateful for your faith and trust in the Made In Grenada Brand and look forward to working together in the future.

To the Fans, the excitement and buzz and energy you have already created for the Showcase makes this a very bitter pill to swallow. However, very setback is an opportunity to re-vamp, re-assess, be even more innovative and we look forward to delivering A Made In Grenada Showcase, in 2015 that we will all be proud of.
