The MADE IN GRENADA top 40 songs since Independence were compiled after consultation with 6 luminaries with the knowledge and expertise to provide an objective listing of the major hits over the past 40 years.

The songs are listed randomly.

For the purposes of this compilation a simple but effective criteria was utilized; a) the impact of the song at the time of release – impact includes innovativeness, freshness and popularity, b) ability of song to transcend time – i.e. can the song solicit a favorable response if performed/played presently.

The compilation is deliberately entitled the MADE IN GRENADA top 40 songs since it reflects the results of a criterion set by Made In Grenada. Made In Grenada is sufficiently pleased that the list highlights the best of Grenada’s music over the past 40 years.

Of course there will be and should be debates and discussions about the list – omissions, inclusions etc. If there is impassioned, informed and intellectual deliberations based on this list then the efforts of the past 4 months in putting together the list would have been time well spent and a worthwhile expenditure of energies.

A special mention must be made of Gentle Ben Television for the foresight to record many of the calypso and soca events of yesteryear and then being conscientious enough now to make that archival material readily available through the provisions of YouTube.
