The “Chief” has landed!

Former Principal of the GBSS Mr Victor Ashby, accompanied by Mrs Ashby and General Manager of LIME Grenada, Mr Angus Steele at JFK International Airport on Wednesday December 5, 2012.

They are in New York to attend Saturday’s 21st Annual Scholarship Awards and Dinner Dance of the GBSS Alumni Association of New York.

LIME, along with Netherlands Insurance (WI) Ltd, the Grenada Co-operative Bank Ltd and the Grenada Union of Teachers’ Co-operative Credit Union, are among Corporate Grenada supporting this weekend’s Gala Event.

Mr Ashby will be among honourees at Saturday’s Gala event being staged at Antuns in Queens, New York. Also to be honoured are World and Olympic 400m Champion Kirani James and NCAA multi-event champion and Grenada record holder in the Decathlon Kurt Felix.

Mr Steele, also a former student of the GBSS, will be representing Corporate Grenada who has provided substantial support for this year’s event. Other Grenada-based sponsors have appointed proxy representations including Directors.

A feature this year will be the launch of the inaugural Kirani James/Co-operative Bank Athletic Scholarship Award. The award will be presented by Mr James on the night of the Gala.

Members of the CARICOM Consular Corps in New York will represent the diplomatic community and Council Member Jumaane Williams, whose father attended the GBSS and excelled in athletics and football, will make presentations on behalf of elected officials in New York.

Entertainment will be provided by Grenada’s musical maestro Edson “Ajamu” Mitchell and the Virginia-based band Passion as well as DJ Wax.

The GBSS Alumni Association of NY would like to thank our many sponsors and individuals who have provided support for this year’s Gala. A few unpaid reserved tickets will go on sale effective Thursday December 6.
