TAWU/SGU NEGOTIATIONS BREAK DOWN

Negotiations between the Technical and Allied Workers Union and St. George’s University broke down Tuesday, resulting in shift workers represented by the union resorting to strike action..

The issue surrounds differential payment which has been on the bargaining table for the past seven years. The reason for the workers’ action as given by the union is that the university refuses to continue dialogue, based on a pamphlet that has been circulating.

The union claims that it has nothing to do with the pamphlet, and does not see why the University is asking them to apologize for its contents. According to SGU’s Communications Administrator, Prudence Greenidge, the union walked out of the talks. Both parties expect to meet with the acting Minister of Labour on Wednesday. .
