St. George’s, August 11, 2010 (GIS) – A Moroccan delegation headed by the country’s Foreign Minister is wrapping up two days of talks with Grenadian government officials on assistance to Grenada in areas such as fisheries and agro-industries.

Foreign Minister Taib Fassi Fihri and his team, including Moroccan business officials, arrived in Grenada Tuesday, July 10. They have been meeting with Prime Minister Hon. Tillman Thomas and Foreign Minister Peter David, as well as with representatives of the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Agriculture and the private sector.

The visit is the result of discussions held recently in London, England, between Foreign Minister David and the Director of Foreign Affairs of Morocco. Grenada and Morocco do not have formal diplomatic relationship.

“We discussed the possibility of not only the establishment of diplomatic relations, but also the possibility of economic and technical cooperation to Grenada,’’ Mr. David told the Government Information Service.  “The areas we’re looking at include agro-industries fisheries, in which Morocco is very much developed. Morocco is also the world’s largest producer of fertilisers and has a developed tourism industry. Those are some of the areas we’re discussing, in addition to others.’’

Morocco, said Foreign Minister David, has “indicated that they are willing to cooperate with us, once diplomatic relations have been established.’’
