Supporting reinvestment in higher quality service for the nation

St. George’s, May 18, 2010 (GIS) – The Grenada Government says it supports measures that are aimed at providing higher quality services to the Grenadian people.

Junior Information Minister, Sen. Arley Gill, said Tuesday that monies raised by entities such as the National Water and Sewage Authority and the Airport Authority are being reinvested in providing better water and airport services.

He slammed Dr. Keith Mitchell for charges made in a statement, in which the Opposition Leader accuses the NDC administration of abuse of power, of burdening Grenadians through taxes and of worsening the record level of unemployment government inherited from the NNP.

Sen. Gill, who is also Public Relations Officer of the National Democratic Congress, outlined some of the initiatives of government that have benefitted Grenadians in the last two years.

“Our government has expanded the number of legitimate persons receiving social assistance,’’ the Senator said. “It has brought pipe-borne water to the people of Tuilleries for the first-time ever, has begun the construction of hundreds of low-income houses and has assisted more than 50 families with loans to repair their homes.

In addition, said Sen. Gill, government has started putting thousands of people to work through projects of the Ministry of Communications and Works.

He challenged the veracity of the statements by the Opposition Leader, especially those related to taxes.

Sen. Gill, also Minister responsible for Culture, said not only is government able to deliver on services to the people, but it’s doing so while also retiring millions of dollars in unpaid debts left by the former administration.
