St. George’s, November 4, 2009 – Dedication, hard work and focus are qualities required for students to succeed at school, says MP and General Secretary of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), Hon. Peter David.
“You can be anything you want to be,’’ Mr. David told students at the St. George’s Anglican Senior School Wednesday morning. “Keep focus on your work, enjoy it, listen to your teachers and parents, so that you will succeed in life.’’
Mr. David, the parliamentary representative for the Town of St. George, was at the St. George’s Anglican Senior to make a presentation to the students and staff headed by principal, Nigel DeGale.
The items presented included a computer from Toronto-based Grenadian Errol George, who is a former resident of the Town of St. George; exercise books and other school supplies from the NDC Support Group in Toronto; and a copy of “White Frock & Coals,’’ a book written by journalist Lincoln Toro Depradine – a former student of the St. George’s Anglican School.
MP David, a former Anglican school students himself, was joined in making the presentation by Dr. Winston Thomas and Pauline Archibald. They were treated to a cultural exhibit of singing, drumming and dancing from students.
Principal DeGale, in brief remarks, disclosed that the St. George’s Anglican School on Church Street will be celebrating its 100th anniversary in 2015. He said the school intends to mark the anniversary by opening a modern multi-purpose teaching classroom facility.
St. George’s Anglican, MP David said, is a wonderful school.
“We appreciate what this school has done for us,’’ added Mr. David, who congratulated the teachers for the work they are doing.
He described teachers as among the “most important’’ people in Grenada, Carriacou and Petite Martinique. “Without you, our society will never develop,’’ said Mr. David, who serves in government as the Minister of Foreign Affairs.
The school supplies, which also include erasers and sharpeners, were requested of NDC Toronto by MP David. He plans on donating some of the items to other schools in the Town of St. George.
