Steady Progress reported on the Brizan/Perseverance Road

St. George’s, November 27, 2009 – Coordinator of the Brizan/Perseverance Road project, Patrick Martin, says his team is going into this weekend confident that they’ll meet next week’s promise of re-opening the road to limited traffic and pedestrian-use.

He said that overall progress has been steady and that more than 55 percent of rocks have been torn down and cleared from the area, following the rock fall that severely damaged the road, making it impassable.

“We believe we are still on track to making some headway to get some temporary access early next week,’’ Mr. Martin said. “We estimate that we have two more rounds of blasting to be done to break down the level of the bench at the top.’’

Eventually, he said, “a final blast will be done, which will open up the road and give us the width of roadway that is needed.’’ The plan is to re-open the road by Wednesday.

In the meantime, Mr. Martin and other Ministry of Works’ officials have reissued their warning that pedestrians should avoid traversing the Brizan/Perseverance Road. They say the area remains a risk to pedestrian use and for vehicular traffic.
