Coolidge, Antigua – 25 October 2008 – Stanford Superstars blasted 53 runs from the last five overs, but Trinidad and Tobago could feel satisfied in restricting the opponents to a competitive 146 for five in the opening match of the Stanford Super Series on Saturday.Acting captain Sylvester Joseph led the charge at the death with an unbeaten 46 off 31 balls that contained two fours and two sixes.
The Stanford Superstars, however, were pegged back slightly in the 19th over from rookie fast bowler Navin Stuart, who removed big-hitting Kieron Pollard for 24 and wicket-keeper Lindon James for four.
Joseph, leading the Stanford Superstars in the absence of appointed captain Chris Gayle, had earlier added 55 in 39 balls for the fourth wicket with opener Travis Dowlin.
Dowlin made 35 off 37 balls before lifting a catch to cover against off-spinner Sherwin Ganga,
After asking the Stanford Superstars to bat first, Trinidad and Tobago did a good job to restrict them to 50 for two at the half-way stage of the innings.
It was due to tight bowling from pacer Ravi Ramapul and leg-spinner Samuel Badree.
Ramapaul did not pick up a wicket, but bowled with excellent control to concede only 16 runs from his four overs, while Badree, who removed opener Andre Fletcher (25) and Ramnaresh Sarwan in successive balls, finished with two for 20 in his four overs..
