St. George’s, January 24, 2012 – The St. George’s Cricket Council (SGC) has elected a five-member Interim Committee to organize and co-ordinate its 2012 season. Committee members were elected at a recent meeting of the SGC held at the National Stadium.
Those serving on the committee are former national cricketers Raphael Croney and Franklyn Frederick, along with Ryan Boyd, Dianne John and Ray Roberts.
The Interim Committee has already held several meetings and has fixed Wednesday, February 1, to begin its opening competition of the season, the T-20 Championship. The competition will be played Wednesday and Thursday of each week.
In the T-20 event, the Council will allow all participating teams to register up to two women cricketers to compete in the tournament.
The SGC says it strongly believes that some female players are capable of competing alongside the men in the T-20. In addition, the Council says the initiative will serve as motivation for women cricketers to prove their worth against their male counterparts.
Other competitions being organized for the 2012 St. George’s season are the Two-day League Cup to be followed by the 35-overs-per-side event.
The St. George’s Council is inviting clubs interested in competing in its 2012 season to attend a meeting this Thursday, January 26, at the Tanteen Playing Field, beginning at 4.30 in the afternoon.
