Beausejour, Carriacou, April 17th, 2015- With the recent national and regional sporting achievements by the young stars of Carriacou and Petite Martinique, testifying to the fact that sports is at its highest level ever on the sister-islands, the Division of Sports in the Ministry of Carriacou and Petite Martinique Affairs is working extremely hard to ensure the rise in sports is sustained on the islands.
The Division held a meeting with sports teachers and coaches from various sporting disciplines to chat the way forward for sports on the sister-islands.
Sporting facilities, training and coaches, equipment and gears, sporting disciplines, scholarship opportunities, strengths and weaknesses of the sporting engagements of the sister-islands were the base of the evening’s discussion.
One of the most heavily emphasized topics at the discussion was the upgrading of sporting facilities throughout the schools and communities on the islands.
It was also requested that a meeting be held on the sister-isle of Carriacou with the Minister of Sports, Hon. Emmalin Pierre, and the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Sports, Mrs. Theresa Bowen, to openly discuss the concern of sports on the sister-islands.
Senior Coach in the Ministry of Carriacou and Petite Martinique Affairs, Mr. Sebastian Stiell, said that from the Ministry’s standpoint, he will welcome the meeting so that more resources can be dedicated towards enhancing the overall sporting operations on the sister-islands.
He also added that through such discussions sports on the sister-island will be better developed.
Parliamentary Secretary for Carriacou and Petite Martinique Affairs, Sen. Hon. Norland Cox, expressed profound gratitude to persons who have been making outstanding contributions towards sports on the sister-islands. He went on to encourage them to continue and extended an invitation to other interested persons to come onboard to make their own contributions.
Senator Cox assured coaches and teachers that with such a committed Minister for Carriacou and Petite Martinique Affairs, Hon. Elvin Nimrod, he can guarantee that their concerns have not fallen on deaf ears.
