St. George’s, June 8, 2012 – Grenadians living in Montreal, Canada, are playing their part in promoting the 2012 Spicemas celebrations.

As part of the May 27 “A Taste of the Caribbean Festival,’’ Montreal-based Grenadians staged a launch of Spicemas 2012.

Grenadian artiste Randy Isaac, who is resident in New York, travelled to Montreal to bring the house down with a stellar performance.

Randy, the 2011 Grenada Groovy Soca Monarch, was accompanied in his performance by Shortknee dancers and pretty mas’ from Montreal Carnival Vibrations and the West Island T&T Carnival designers.

The carnival launch was an initiative of Playmas Montreal Cultural Association of Montreal. Grenadian Gemma Raeburn-Baynes is founder and president of the association.

Cherrie Jones, last year’s Spicemas Carnival Queen, participated in the launch and also utilized her professional training in culinary arts.

She was the Celebrity Chef in the preparation of Grenadian treats such as Oil Down, Creole Lambi, Callaloo Rice, Spicy Nutmeg Chicken and a drunken Bread Pudding.

Jones was ably assisted in the cooking by Grenadian-born Montreal local chef, Lovinna Mark, the Grenada Youth Group of Montreal and students of the Pius X Culinary Institute.

Jenny Gumbs, Grenada’s Consul General to Toronto, and Honourary Consul for Grenada to Montreal, Leonard Wharwood Jr., officiated at the launch of Spicemas.

According to members of the organizing committee, the Caribbean Festival and Spicemas launch, which included a market place and gift bags to VIPs donated by the Toronto office of the Grenada Board of Tourism, owe much of their success to the support of volunteers and sponsors.
