Starting December 02nd 2010 a new unique tourist attraction will be launch within the city of St George’s.
Called the Grenada Discovery Train it will offer the only tourist sightseeing train in the Town of St. George. Founder Gerrit Van’t dack has been working on bringing this unique Tours and Sightseeing venture to Grenada for four years.
Speaking about the venture he said, “I am convinced that this new attraction is more than just a commercial initiative. As you know, St. George’s is not very inviting to explore on foot for elderly or less mobile persons, many of whom also enjoy cruising/vacationing in Grenada and the Grenada Discovery Train will be a big help to these groups of persons.”
He said that a specialize tour for the Town of St. George do not really exist and with the city sightseeing tour, his company will be opening parts of the city previously unknown or less visited during a fifty minutes tour that will see users of the train getting a better understanding about the town’s history, culture, architecture and changing designs.
He explains that the train will operate as a “hop-on / hop-off” service on a pre-determined itinerary that was developed in close cooperation and with much support of the Royal Grenada Police Force and the Board of Tourism.
The train, according to the founder is diesel based engine built to look like steam locomotive and pulls 2 carts offering a total seating capacity of 36. The train was built by a Belgian crew who has their manufacturing operation in China and has been building similar trains for many Years.
“An equal amount of attention was put into the technical aspects and maneuverability of the vehicle, baring in mind the steep and narrow roads of St. Georges, this train is perfectly equipped to handle all of that at ease,” Van’t dack said. (LS)
