Road work brings relief for residents

St. George’s, August 30, 2010 – Residents of the Carenage, after many complaints of a blocked and overflowing drain in the community,
have received some relief.

The complaints were made to Works Minister Joseph Gilbert and Town of St. George MP, Foreign Minister Peter David, who both had visited the
site for a firsthand look and had promised action. The drain is near the residential area known as the Bungalow.

Last Sunday a Ministry of Works crew of five, headed by Elvis Noel, was sent to the area to try and unblock the drain and have water flowing freely through it.

Mr. Noel said unblocking the drain is only a “temporary measure.’’ The longterm solution, he explained, will involve cutting and rebuilding a
section of the road, and constructing a new drain.

Mr. Gilbert, who is also Minister of Public Utilities, said while all problems cannot be dealt with at the speed that people would like, they can be assured that every attempt will be made by government to address the needs of people all across the nation.

“That is a commitment we have made and that is a commitment we intend to keep,’’ he said. “Minister David was as determined as I was to get
this work done now, and to fix the problem once and for all in the future.’’
