For another consecutive year, Ribena, through its local distributor Huggins Pharmaceuticals Division, is sponsoring the Inter-Primary School Athletics Championship held by Carriacou and Petite Martinique’s Grenada Union Teachers’ (G.U.T.) Branch. Last Wednesday in Hillsborough, Carriacou, a ceremony officially launching this year’s championship was held, where Mr. Kerwin Noel, Chairman of the Organizing Sports Committee received a presentation of medals and trophies from Mr. George “Porgie” Cherebin, who presented on behalf of Geo. F. Huggins & Co. (G’da) Ltd and by extension Ribena. This year’s 2011 Ribena Sponsorship, doesn’t merely mark Ribena’s renewal of its commitment to youth development particularly through athletics, but defines the Brand’s intention of unwavering support – generously investing with a firm understanding of the potential impact of the continuance of their sponsorship.
In elaborating on both Companies’ pledged investment in youth development, Mr. Cherebin urged that the relationship between G.U.T and Ribena develop as a mutually shared commitment to each other’s goals. With the renewed sponsorship, Ribena is accomplishing the task of providing the Sister Isles’ schools an opportunity to have equal footing along side their mainland counterparts, who are already accustomed with support from a corporate level. Along with the medals and trophies, the Ribena Sponsorship includes radio promotions and refreshments for Officials on the day of the Championship.
In his remarks, Mr. Kerwin Noel mirrored the gathering atmosphere of enthusiasm and burgeoning anticipation surrounding the upcoming championship, which has come about despite a hectic preparation schedule, formulating into probably one of the best. Clearly attesting to this prediction with their welcomed return, Mt Pleasant Government School, who missed last year’s Championship, will be participating along with Dover Government School, Harvey Vale Government School, Hillsborough Government School and L’esterre R.C. School, making Tuesday 22nd and Friday 25th of February at the Hillsborough Recreational Grounds a competitive and potentially explosive showcase of our Tri-Island Nation’s future Track and Field talent.
The Launch Ceremony was brought live on Sister Isle FM. Also, the radio station gave broader access by bringing live coverage of the ceremony on the Internet. Plans are already underway to ensure live broadcast is available for the Carriacou & Petite Martinique Inter-Primary School Athletics Championship.
