St. George’s, March 9, 2012 – Grenada’s Social Development Minister, Sylvester Quarless, says he plans on running in the next general election.
He is the current NDC Member of Parliament for St. Andrew South-West.
Quarless told a Constituency Branch meeting on Thursday night that he intends seeking re-election at the polls that are due by next year.
About 100 people from St. Andrew South-West and other constituencies from across the country attended the meeting.
“The meeting went nice. People spoke passionately and asked question,’’ said a participant at the meeting, which was also attended party leader and Prime Minister, Hon. Tillman Thomas.
Among the questions was whether Quarless supports the Prime Minister. The MP replied in the affirmative.
Information Minister Glen Noel, a resident of St. Andrew South-West, proposed a resolution in which the Constituency Branch would lobby the NDC executive to change the venue of the party’s upcoming general council.
The executive, of which Noel is a member, has already scheduled the meeting for March 25 in Carriacou.
But many party members of St. Andrew South-West have expressed preference for Carriacou as the venue, saying it’s a more “neutral place’’ where they’ll be able to “sit down and get some serious business done.’’
Other than Quarless, two other sitting NDC MPs have publicly declared their intention to seek re-election.
They are Labour Minister Glynis Roberts, MP for St. George South; and Joseph Gilbert, parliamentary representative for St. Patrick West.
