Prime Minister Mitchell congratulates Prime Minister Gaston Browne of Antigua and Barbuda

ST. GEORGE’S, GRENADA, June 13, 2014 – GIS:On behalf of the Government and People of Grenada, Carriacou and Petite Martinique, Prime Minister Dr. the Rt. Honourable Keith Mitchell extends heartfelt congratulations to the new government of Antigua and Barbuda, and new Prime Minister, Honourable Gaston Browne.

Prime Minister Mitchell believes that the elections in Antigua and Barbuda and Honourable Browne’s stewardship of the Antigua Labour Party to electoral victory, reflect the best traditions of parliamentary democracy.

Prime Minister Dr. Keith Mitchell recalls with fondness and gratitude Hon. Gaston Browne and Hon. Asot Michael’s presence at his swearing-in ceremony in early 2013, when he assumed office in Grenada.

The traditionally close relationship between the two leaders is one that Grenada’s Prime Minister cherishes and looks forward to strengthening, as the region strives to address the pressing challenges which confront its people.

Prime Minister Dr. Keith Mitchell said that he is convinced that the leaders among the CARICOM nations today, are “well-placed to build upon the established foundation of collaboration—not just for the economic welfare of the people of the region, but also for the harnessing of the common aspirations of the various nations.”

Honourable Gaston Browne and his Antigua Labour Party (ALP) won 14 of the 17 seats to defeat Honourable Baldwin Spencer and his United Progressive Party (UPP) in the Antigua and Barbuda general elections on June 12th.
