ST.GEORGE’S, GRENADA, JANUARY 22nd, 2010_ Prime Minister Tillman Thomas has welcomed an Indian delegation to his Botanical Gardens Office to discuss the development of the small business sector in Grenada.
The delegation headed by the Trinidad based Indian High Commissioner, His Excellency Malay Mishra, discussed the setting up of an incubator for small businesses to oversee training and technical assistance for the sector, through the Grenada Industrial Development Corporation (GIDC).
“We welcome this because it can benefit our small agro-processors and our Youth Improvement Programme, so that our youth who wish to get involved in business can access that kind of training and support,” the Prime Minister said.
He also requested the assistance of the Indian government in sourcing small powered agricultural equipment. India and Grenada are already working on the establishment of an ICT center and a Memorandum of Understanding to govern the relationship between the two countries.
“Our cooperation is developing quite successfully, many things are on the move,” the High Commissioner remarked.
The four member delegation discussed the scarcity of water in Carriacou and the Indian government’s assistance to the promotion of that country’s culture in Grenada, highlighting the erecting of a monument in Sauteurs to mark the first Indians to arrive in Grenada.
The Prime Minister also noted this government’s policy of decentralizing development and urging that some of the proposed assistance go to St. Andrews.
