PRIME MINISTER BRIEFED ON GRENVILLE MARKET SQUARE PROJECT

 Officials of the Ministry Of Communication and Works and the Project Coordination Unit of the Ministry of Economic Development and Planning have briefed Prime Minister Dr. The Rt. Hon. Mitchell, on the current status and scheduled implementation of the Grenville Market Square Development Project.

 

The Prime Minister was advised that on the basis of current plans, work on the Market Square and abattoir is scheduled to commence in the latter half of 2008 following the temporary relocation of vending and bus operations.  Work on the bus terminal is expected to begin in the first quarter of 2009.

 

 

The Prime Minister was also advised that plans for the temporary relocation of vendors and bus operators using the market have already been drawn up.  The relocation process is expected to begin in May of this year.

 

 

The Prime Minister re-stated his very strong support for the project in light of the benefits it will bring to the people of St. Andrew and Grenada.  He urged all involved to work towards the efficient implementation of the project while keeping all relevant stakeholders fully involved.
