PRIMARY AND SECONDARY SCHOOLS IN CARRIACOU AND PETITE MARTINIQUE HAVE RECEIVED EDUCATIONAL GAMES AND BOOKS

Hillsborough, November 13, 2008_Kayaks living overseas continue to play a pivotal role in the development of Carriacou and Petit Martinique. The Ministry of Carriacou and Petit Martinique Affairs received a shipment of educational games from the New York based Carriacou and Petit Martinique 2000 (CPM 2000) for distribution to primary and secondary schools. Minister of Carriacou and Petit Martinique Affairs Senator the Hon. George Prime along with his Personal Assistant Mr. Anderson Matheson handed over the books to the various schools.

In his remarks to the Hillsborough Government School, where the Minister presented to the principal Mr. Henry Stiell, Senator Prime said the government places much emphasis on education, as “an educated nation is necessary for development and growth.”

Mr. Stiell said the school is “very grateful” for the donation, as it will help in the development of the children.

Presentations were also made to Mt. Pleasant Government, Dover Government, L’Esterre R.C and Harvey Vale Government School. The Principals at the various schools expressed their gratitude to the Carriacou and Petit Martinique 2000 organisation for the gesture. The supplies comprise Brain Quest, Monopoly, Picture Dictionary, Bingo, Scrabble and Chess.

In addition, the group will awarded ten full scholarships to eligible students at the T.A. Marryshow Community College (TAMCC) in Six Roads Carriacou, at an estimated annual cost of US $3,500. The scholarships are based on need and will be focused on lagging sectors of the economy. The CPM 2000 says it is committed to improving the quality of life for the people of all three islands in the state of Grenada. The CPM 2000 is also the sponsor for the annual Spelling B competition among the primary schools..
