Ferron Lowe, Vice Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), was yesterday questioned for several minutes by members of the Royal Grenada Police Force (RGPF).“They came and took statements,” said Lowe, who is also a lawyer at Ciboney Chambers located on Herbert Blaize Street, St. George’s.
He was one of several NDC executives present at a meeting Tuesday night where a police officer was caught spying on the meeting’s proceedings.
Meanwhile, Public Relations Officer for the NDC Nazim Burke says discussions are being held with a team of lawyers which could lead to lawsuits being brought against Prime Minister and National Security Minister Keith Mitchell and Police Commissioner Winston James.Opposition Leader Tillman Thomas has argued that the police action violated the constitutional right to privacy.
NDC officials were meeting at the party’s Lucas Street office when they noticed a red flash emanating from an abandoned building adjacent to the office. A few NDC members moved swiftly to investigate and discovered two men in plain clothes attempting to flee the scene. One was tackled and caught. The other escaped.
The man who was caught gave his name as Kelon Noel and said he was a member of the RGPF. His identification, which was handed over, confirmed his name and his status as a police officer.Under interrogation, 26-year-old Noel said his assignment was at the order of a senior RGPF officer he identified as De Gale.
The Keith Mitchell-led ruling New National Party has distanced itself from the incident.
