The night of February 7th did come
when Grenada won its freedom
Its people, united in one voice
celebrated their long-awaited choice

Sir Eric Gairy was there to lead the way
for the island to have its independence day
The Torchlight Newspaper tried to block the plan
but Grenada still became a sovereign land

The people of Grenada, they fought with pride
for the future they all wanted to provide
Thanks to their courage and will to prevail
the island’s future, it could not fail

Fifty years of independence, we now commemorate
for the people of Grenada, it’s a moment to celebrate
Their past is now part of their history
and their future is now a mystery
