ST.GEORGE’S, GRENADA, THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 17th, 2009 _ Grenada’s Prime Minister Tillman Thomas has welcomed the support of the leader of Her Majesty’s Opposition, Dr. Keith Mitchell, for the recommendation of Mr. Agar Alexander as Grenada’s first Ombudsman since Independence.
The Prime Minister’s letter to Dr. Mitchell on 14th July 2009 recommended Mr. Alexander for the position based on the passage of the Ombudsman act passed in Parliament in 2007.
“It is my intention to recommend Mr. Agar Anthony Alexander, former Cabinet Secretary to the Governor General for appointment as Ombudsman….As we work toward strengthening democracy, I am requesting your concurrence in recommending Mr. Alexander as Ombudsman,” the letter said.
In a response, dated 24th July, 2009, a letter, signed by Dr. the Right Honorable Keith Mitchell, from the office of the Leader of Her Majesty’s Opposition said there was “no objection to this appointment.”
The letter was received by the Prime Minister’s Office on the 6th August 2009.
