PLANS ON STREAM FOR THE CELEBRATION OF THE 40TH ANNIVERSARY OF INDEPENDENCE

Beausejour, Carriacou, January 10, 2014- A fireworks display will form part of the 40th anniversary celebrations of Grenada’s Independence on the sister isle of Carriacou and Petite Martinique.

The Carriacou and Petite Martinique Celebrations Committee headed by Vinishah Cudjoe have been holding a series of meetings to put plans in place to commemorate such an important milestone.

The annual independence schools’ road race will kick off the activities on Friday, January 24th, 2014; participation is expected from students from the six (6) primary schools on the island including Petite Martinique and the two secondary schools; Bishop’s College and Hillsborough Secondary.

Thursday, January 30th, 2014 the people of Petite Martinique are expected to adorn themselves in the national colours; as their parish celebrations will be staged at the Petite Martinique Tennis Court.

While the parish celebrations for Carriacou will be the following day Friday, January 31st, 2014. Members of the Royal Grenada Police Force and uniformed groups are expected to lead the military parade planned for the Hillsborough Recreation Grounds.

Other activities for this year’s independence celebrations include a church service on Sunday, January 24th, 2014 at the Hillsborough Evangelical Church and the annual Prime Minister’s Best Village Competition.

A call is therefore being made for members of the public to give their full support and participation. The 40th anniversary of independence is being celebrated under the theme; “Uniting our people, restoring hope for a brighter tomorrow”.
