St. George’s, July 4, 2011 – Government officials have said that work on the construction of a multipurpose complex in Mon Tout, St. George’s, could begin within four to six weeks.
Residents of the community were allowed to view the architectural drawings for the complex, and offered their feedback, when the drawings were put on display on June 29.
“We wanted the residents to be involved in this phase of the project which is just the preparatory stage. The Ministry of Works now has to do the structural drawing and get it approved,’’ said Labour Minister and MP for St. George South, Glynis Roberts. “After a cost is put to the project, it would then go to tender.’’
The proposed two-storey complex, which will facilitate educational, sporting and cultural activities, will include amenities such as a library, computer room, kitchen and main hall.
A pavilion and players’ locker-rooms for the Mon Tout Playing Field are also to be part of the project, said Mrs. Roberts, who is also Minister of Social Security and Ecclesiastical Affairs.
“Financing for the project is already approved by the Venezuelan government,’’ she said. “It is one of many that will be undertaken by the Venezuelans in communities across the state.’’
The other planned projects include rehabilitation and refurbishment of the St. George’s Market Square and the Roy St. John Recreation Ground in Tanteen.
