Jerry D.M. Romain

Jerome “Jerry” D.M. Romain was born on January 1st 1939 on Green Street in St. George’s, Grenada. He attended Primary and Secondary Schools as well as the Teacher Training Institution. He was awarded a Commonwealth Scholarship by the British Council in London where he specialized in Broadcasting. His performance at Training College resulted in an assignment with the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) where he served as Producer in the Caribbean Service from 1973 until his recall to Grenada.
Locally, he joined the staff of the then Windward Islands Broadcasting Service (WIBS) and rose from Announcer to Program Director, in which role he served in St. Lucia for four months and in St. Vincent & the Grenadines for a period of two years.
When WIBS folded up, the Windward Governments established their own radio stations where he was appointed Manager of Radio Grenada, a position he held until the Revolutionary Government took control and detained him on grounds that he was a counter revolutionary. When the interim Government took office, Romain was re-instated to his public service position and was appointed as Director of Government Information Service.
On retirement he served with Voice of Grenada Radio as Manager and later with Meaningful Television. Romain is now freelancing and shares his time with broadcasting an agricultural development.
We at Spiceislander.com will like to wish Mr. Romain a happy and healthy retirement.
