Opposition Swon In

After thirteen years as Prime Minister, Dr. Keith Mitchell has officially assumed a new role, that of opposition leader.

During a ceremony at the Governor General’s residence on Wednesday, Dr. Mitchell took the oath of allegiance.

He will lead a four man opposition which includes Roland Bhola, Elvin Nimrod and Dr. Claris Modeste.

The former Prime Minister is promising that the parliamentary opposition would put the country’s interest above that of the party.

Dr. Mitchell is calling on supporters, many of whom were present at the ceremony, not to be dejected by the party’s loss in the July 8th polls.

In the coming days the Opposition is expected to announce its Shadow Cabinet to advise, and when necessary critique government’s actions.

Meanwhile, Senators of the main opposition new national party received their instruments of appointment.

They are Kennedy Roberts, Dwight Horsford and Devon Rachae.

Roberts who lost to Nazim Burke for the St. George North East seat, says he will put his country first at all times.

Rachae, the youngest political candidate is promising to be the voice of the youth as he takes his place in the senate, while Attorney, Dwight Horsford says the opposition in the senate will be one that is productive.

The senators will pledge their oath of allegiance at the first sitting of the Upper House..
