St. Georges, October 23rd, 2010: Leader of the Opposition Dr. the Rt. Hon Keith Mitchell, extends deepest condolences to the Thompson family and the people of Barbados on the passing of Prime Minister Hon. David John Howard Thompson earlier on today.

Speaking on behalf of the Members of the Official Opposition and on behalf of the Executive members of the New National Party, Dr. Mitchell said Prime Minister Thompson’s passing away is a tremendous loss, not only to the people of Barbados but to all of us in the regional community. He described the Barbadian Leader as a shrewd and outstanding politician.

Prime Minister Thompson was a true public servant who provided outstanding leadership to Barbados and the wider Caribbean Community. He always displayed a calm temperament in the face of tough challenges and the strength of his personal convictions was made manifest in his deep sense of duty and commitment to the people of Barbados and the Caribbean region.

He was a true gentleman and he will be greatly missed by all.

May the Lord provide His Divine support to his wife, Marie-Josephine Mara, his three daughters and other members of the Thompson’s family during this period of bereavement.
