OPPOSITION EXPRESSES SYMPATHY

St. George’s, Grenada, March 14th 2011:  Leader of the Opposition Dr. the Rt. Hon. Keith Mitchell says he is deeply saddened by the devastation caused by the recent tsunami and earthquake in Japan.

“I am deeply saddened to learn about the loss of life which continues to increase and I wish to extend my deepest condolences to the families and friends of those who lost loved ones as a result of this unprecedented ‘double disaster,’ and to empathize with the Government of Japan as this must be a testing time of the country.”

The former Prime Minister encouraged the people of Japan to be strong in these challenging times saying that our prayers are with them and that despite the economic predictions, the people of Japan are known to possess great strength, courage, resilience and abilities that will be valuable assets in the recovery process.  “I therefore appeal to the regional and international community to give as much support as possible to the people of Japan.” The Japanese Government has been a good friend to Grenada for many years and Grenada has benefitted from the technical and financial cooperation with Japan.
