St. George’s, August 8, 2012 – Organizers of the recent United Insurance Over-40 football competition that was played at Old Trafford in Tanteen have chosen an all-star squad for a game on Sunday, August 12.
Sunday’s 60-minute game at Old Trafford is part of an afternoon of fun and games being put on by the Carenage Organization for Recreation and Entertainment.
Activities begin 3 pm, with the football game scheduled to start at 4.30.
The Old Trafford squad will come up against a team representing Grenadians in the Diaspora that are visiting for the holidays. They’ll be competing for the Derrick James Challenge Trophy.
Queen’s Park Rangers, which won the United Insurance tournament, has five players on the Old Trafford all-star squad. They are Francis Phillip, Cheney Joseph, Richard Logan, Ricky Logan and Denis Bonaparte.
The rest of the squad comprises the following players:
Thomas Alexis, Karl Pivott, Leonard Banfield and Anthony Samuel of St. Paul’s.
Davis Augustine, Chris Augustine, Douglas Hood and Leon Francis of Honved.
Ernest Lett, Lindon Bishop and Louis Charles of South Central.
Keith McQuilkin, Selwyn Brathwaite and Stanley Pierre of St. David’s Golden Boys.
Joslin Pascal, Calvin Baptiste and Charles Thomas of South Patriots.
And from Carenage United are Dexter Lawrence, Jason Stanisclaus, Jeffrey Depradine and Barry Nixon.
The Old Trafford players will be coached by Kenton Roberts and Roderick Griffith.
Among the players expected in the Diaspora lineup are Allister Romain, Keith Fletcher, Derrick James and Errie George.
