Official opening of “beautiful’’ children’s playground on Sunday

St. George’s, May 27, 2010 – Final preparations are being made for the official opening of the refurbished children’s playground at Tanteen, St. George’s.

The playground, also known as “The Swing,’’ was in disrepair for many years until recently rebuilt and repainted by telecommunications provider, LIME. It will be formally handed over on Sunday afternoon, May 30, to Hon. Peter David, Member of Parliament for the Town of St. George.

MP David is delighted with the gesture from LIME and is inviting all Grenadians to attend Sunday’s opening of the Tanteen children’s facility. The handing over ceremony, which will include steelpan entertainment from Republic Bank Angel Harps, is scheduled to begin at 3 pm.

“One of the beautiful things I see happening is that playground in Tanteen,’’ Hon. David said. “I want to thank sponsor, LIME, who assisted us with getting the playground up and running.’’

Mr. David, General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress, and government’s Foreign Affairs Minister, said “The Swing’’ is a family facility, which he wants to see duplicated throughout Grenada, Carriacou and Petite Martinique.

“We’re inviting everybody to bring their children along to the opening of the playground on Sunday and to have a good time,’’ he said.  “It provides a place now where parents can go with their kids in the afternoon to play and meet other children. I hope we can repeat that throughout the nation. We have to find these open spaces where children and their parents can come, sit down and enjoy the outdoors.’’

MP David said there are other projects in his constituency that are being completed or are about to the launched. They include projects in River Road and Melville Street, he said.

“The Market Square is another area that I am deeply concerned about and hopefully we can sort out that out soon,’’ Mr David said.

At the level of the National Democratic Congress, the General Secretary said the NDC is engaging in a series of members’ meetings ahead of the party’s annual convention. It will be held Sunday, July 11, at the St. Andrew’s Anglican Secondary School.

“It will be a time to celebrate what we achieved so far and to do some self assessment,’’ Mr. David said. “We’ve done a lot and I think we’re going in the right direction. But there is always room for improvement.’’
